July 4th, 2026 will mark 250 years of American Democracy

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Initiative for Democracy & Civic Empowerment, the Clements Library, and the Arts Initiative are leading a university-wide program marking this historic milestone.

At the heart of the U.S. at 250 program is a grant initiative designed to support activities across campus. These grants will highlight diverse programs that recognize both historic achievements and persistent inequities, while envisioning a more democratic future.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available in the following categories:

  • Events & Programming
  • Teaching & Learning Opportunities
  • Research & Artistic Practice
